As the title says, this is going to be a completely different post from my usual posts. It has nothing to do with fashion, books, makeup, tags or anything of the sort.
This post has to do with inclusion and the celebration of WORLD DOWN SYNDROME DAY!!! Now some of you might ask...what has this got to do with this blog? It has nothing related, but I really do believe in the hard work that goes on behind the inclusion of people with special needs in the society.
Many people around the world, now about St Patrick's Day, Valentine's Day, International Women's Day etc etc, but very few know about other important days such as World Down Syndrome Day.
This day - 21st March - marks World Down Syndrome Day. This year, it will be the 7th year it is going to be celebrated, and this year is also the first year to be 'observed' by the United Nations.
'On this day, let us reaffirm that persons with Down Syndrome are entitled to the full and effective enjoyment of all human rights and fundamental freedoms. Let us each do our part to enable children and persons with Down Syndrome to participate fully in the development and life of their societies on an equal basis with others. Let us build an inclusive society for all.'
Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon
Awareness regarding various disabilities including Down Syndrome has been increasing worldwide, however there is still a long way to go. The WDSD has been created, to continue raising awareness to the public about Down Syndrome.
If you have read this post - let other people know that this day is a particular day. Awareness is one of the ways of building an inclusive society. Every little input makes a difference!!
